ACCJ was delighted to welcome Frances Morris, Director Emeritus of Tate Modern and Chair of the Gallery Climate Coalition, to our AIT Daikanyama Room for a conversation on the art sector and climate action. Frances Morris is a curator and art historian, Chair of the Board of Gallery Climate Coalition, and Director Emerita of Tate Modern. She served as Director of Tate Modern from 2016 to 2023, having previously held the role of Director of Collection, International Art.Her curatorial work includes major retrospectives of Louise Bourgeois, Yayoi Kusama, and Agnes Martin. From 2006 to 2016, Morris played a leading role in strategically expanding and diversifying Tate’s collection policy. Through acquisitions, exhibitions, and curatorial initiatives, she led the geographical expansion of Tate’s collection beyond the Western canon, advanced gender equality across Tate Modern’s artistic programme, and broadened the scope of contemporary art within the museum by establishing performance and live art as key areas of the collection.
Since spearheading Tate’s declaration of a Climate and Ecological Emergency in July 2019, she has also become an influential voice in discussions surrounding culture and sustainability. Recent projects include Phyllida Barlow: unscripted (Hauser & Wirth Somerset) and Agnes Martin: Moments of Perfection (Sorol Art Museum, South Korea).

フランシス・モリス（キュレーター、美術史家、GCC理事長、テート・モダン名誉館長）
2016年から2023年までテート・モダン（英国）の館長を務め、ルイーズ・ブルジョワ、草間彌 生、アグネス・マーティンなどの高い評価を得た回顧展を含む多数の展覧会や出版物を手がけた。2006年から2016年にはテートの国際美術コレクション部門のディレクターとして、女性アーティストの積極的な紹介や、収蔵・展示・企画を通じて、写真、映像、パフォーマンスなどのジャンルを初めて扱うなど、収集方針の拡充と多様化を戦略的に推進し、同館の国際的なコレクションの改革を牽引した。 また、2019年7月にテートが発表した気候・生態系非常事態宣言に深く関与して以来、文化とサステナビリティをめぐる議論における重要な発信者として活動している。 近年のキュレーションに、「Phyllida Barlow: unscripted」（ハウザー＆ワース・サマセット（英国）、2024年）、「Agnes Martin: Moments of Perfection」（ソルオル美術館（韓国）、2024年）などがある。
